A sizable number of voters see the secretary of State as the most important Cabinet position these days, but one-in-five voters aren’t familiar with the person currently holding that role.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 32% of Likely U.S. Voters say the secretary of State is the most critical Cabinet position these days. Twenty-one percent (21%) see the secretary of Defense as the most important role in the president’s Cabinet, while just as many (21%) say the same of the attorney general. Eight percent (8%) feel the secretary of Homeland Security is the most critical position, and six percent (6%) feel that way about the secretary of the Treasury. Just two percent (2%) think the secretary of Energy is the key post in the Cabinet, and another 11% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
